Reverberations of the Resurrection
This week we find ourselves feeling like spring may actually be close at hand! The crocuses are not out yet, but the hope of them is in the occasional gust of — dare we say warm-ish — wind. Along with this anticipation of spring, comes the anticipation of Easter. This week's lectionary focuses on the meaning of the resurrection, and that which has come from it.
We are reminded that through the suffering of Jesus on the cross, and the mystery of the resurrection, there is a most glorious outcome. Mathew Myer Boulton puts it so well in stating that a community of Justice, Kindness and Humility, are the fruits of the resurrection. The posts below each speak to suffering, persecution, and sorrow leading to Justice, Kindness and Humility.
In the first article we have a story of Justice. Anisha Bensdira, an activist living locally in Collingwood, found her voice in reflecting on her own experiences of racism while growing up in a small rural town. Through persecution she has arrived at a place where she strives to fight for justice for herself, and those also experiencing racism.
Next we have a poem entitled "Kindness". The poet Naomi Shihab Nye depicts a kindness developed out of experiencing deep sorrow, portraying a relationship between suffering and benevolence.
Lastly we have the complimentary notes of the fifth instalment of the SALT Lenten podcast series. This week we are invited to see the Crucifixion, the Resurrection, and the perpetual fallout thereof, in the form of a seed dying on the stalk, rising as a plant, and ultimately bearing an abundance of nurturing fruit.
