Living Like a Community

Most people would agree that the way we humans are treating the earth we live on is unsustainable. We are constantly being reminded, both by practical examples (such as climate change-induced weather catastrophes) and by stark predictions from our scientists, that short term thinking is taking its toll on mother earth.

Below, find an article about a sustainable lifestyle called "eco-commons" living. This approach bears the same spirit many of us are striving to embody already. When reading it, you may be reminded of the community outreach projects, and the diversity of support groups, members of our church are actively a part of. It gives us hope that if enough people focus on living in cooperation with one another, then the future of the earth need not be so bleak.

Also enjoy the short video gifted to us by SALT Productions. With the scripture of ACTS put to music and pictures, it ties in nicely with the concept of eco-commons living. A place where people living with one heart and one soul ensure there be no needy person!

Reclaiming a down-to-earth way-of-life

By Ted Reeve | Mar 2, 2019

At a more grass-roots level, some of us have found the old idea of the commons to have relevance in the 21st century. The idea of being commoners and engaged in commoning gives fresh expression to a way-of-life that is down-to-earth, practical, cooperative, participatory, local and yet with global understanding.

One heart and soul

In his new book, “A Promised Land,” Barack Obama describes meeting with people as a community organizer: in church basements, at community centers, and on front porches. He'd ask them to describe two worlds: 1) the world you live in now; and 2) the world you wish to see.
